How to Apply

Studying at SuniTAFE is an excellent pathway for people of all ages - from school leavers to those who have been in the workforce for some time and would like to gain a qualification, upgrade their current qualification or are seeking a career change.

When choosing a course please take time to make sure you meant the required perquisites and/or other selection criteria.

General Courses Short Courses Apprenticeships & Traineeships International

Students applying for places in full-time courses, not requiring VTAC application, need to complete an Application for Admission form and attend an interview with the relevant Educational Business Manager.

Approval of the enrolment may be given at the interview providing the Educational Business Manager is satisfied that the required pre-requisites have been met by the student. Alternatively, upon presentation of the required statements, reports or folios, students will be notified in writing whether their application has been successful.

Mature Age Entry
The Institute has provision for mature age entry to courses for people who do not meet the specified educational pre-requisites. Prospective students who are 18 years of age and over, may be eligible to enter courses if they have relevant work experience and/or can demonstrate their potential to successfully complete the course they have applied for. Educational Business Managers will offer places at the Institute to mature age applicants on the merits of individual cases.

Access & Equity (Special Entry)
Sunraysia Institute of TAFE values the diversity of its client group and seeks to provide access and equity for all people undertaking vocational education and training.

If a student believes they do not fit the admission requirements for the course they are interested in, they may apply under the Special Entry provisions of the Institute.

Re-enrolment
Students wishing to continue studies are required to re-enrol. Please contact the relevant Educational Business Manager.

Credit Transfer
Credit transfer is available to students that have existing identical qualification from the same or another course. This applies to students transferring to Sunraysia Institute of TAFE with a partially completed qualification, or where competencies / modules are identical for different courses. Students apply for Direct Credit using appropriate forms, if credit is granted they are exempt from that subject.

Short course applicants may enrol by telephone, mail, or in person. Mail enrolments must include payment of course fees. Places are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Employers and new apprentices are required to obtain, complete and return a Training Agreement available from a New Apprenticeships Centre within 14 days of the apprentice starting work.

Applicants should contact the Educational Business Manager at the selected Institute Campus with the training program (supplied with the Training Agreement) for information concerning enrolment, starting dates and residential information. The enrolment process is finalised upon full payment of fees at or before the first stage of training at the Institute.

Apprenticeship Field Officer
The Apprenticeship Field Officer can offer advice and information in matters relating to Contracts of Training and Training Agreements.

Employers, supervisors, apprentices and trainees may contact the Apprenticeship Field Officer for information or advice on training, subsidies, trade certification or other matters of concern they may have in relation to training or employment.

Step 1

Choose a course.

Step 2

Make sure you meet the course's entry requirements:

A) You have completed an IELTS test, and have an IELTS test score equal to or greater than that required for that course. This test must have been taken no more than two years before you submit your enrolment application.

B) You have a Senior High School Certificate or equivalent qualification.

C) You will be at least 18 years old when you start the course.

D) If you are currently studying in Australia, you can provide evidence that you have maintained satisfactory attendance and made satisfactory academic progress during all of your courses in Australia.

Step 3

Complete the following forms:

Application Form for International Students
Acceptance Agreement for an Intending International Student
Airport On-arrival and Accommodation Placement Request Form

Photocopy or scan:

The front page of your passport (the page with your name and photo on it)
Your IELTS test results
The academic transcript of the highest qualification you have obtained

Step 4

Send all the documentation listed in Step 3 via mail, email or fax to:

A "Letter of Offer" will be issued if your application is successful. If unsuccessful you will be notified in writing.

Step 5

Pay your first semester's tuition fee. This cost will be mentioned in your Letter of Offer. Complete the Payment Options form and send it to SuniTAFE using one of the methods listed in Step 4.

Step 6

Organise your student visa. For more information about visas, please visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website, or speak with a visa agent in your home country.

Step 7 (for nursing students)

If you are enrolled in the Certificate IV in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 Nursing), you must successfully complete the "National Reporting System Level 4 for Literacy" and "National Reporting System Level 3 for Numeracy" tests before starting your course. Please talk to us or contact Vetassess to find out test details and dates. If applying for a test through Vetassess, please send a copy of the application to SuniTAFE.

Processing Times for Applications and Visas

The International Students Unit will endeavour to issue an offer to you, or a representative if you use their services, within one working week* of receipt of your application and all supporting documentation. Delays will be experienced if forms or documentation are incomplete. The processing of your student visa by DIAC varies from country to country, so you should check with the local Australian Diplomatic Mission for advice on normal visa processing times.

*Please note: SuniTAFE is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Victorian public holidays.

Notification of Address

Under Australian Government student visa regulations, you must register your residential address and phone number with the International Students Unit at SuniTAFE within seven days of arriving in Australia. You must also notify SuniTAFE in writing on the approved form of any changes to your residential address, phone number or email address every time you make a change to any of these contact details. Should SuniTAFE have to issue you with a formal letter to attend an interview at DIAC because of unsatisfactory attendance or academic performance, and your residential address registered with SuniTAFE is not current, DIAC may automatically cancel your visa, which may result in your removal from Australia.

Notification of Change of Provider

You must notify SuniTAFE of your intention to move to another institution within seven days of issue of an Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) by your new education provider.

Fees

For future stages of your course, SuniTAFE reserves the right to adjust annual tuition fees to take into account increases in costs. SuniTAFE undertakes to keep any adjustment factor to a minimum.

Scholarships

The Australian Government offers scholarships to students from participating countries. Contact AusAID for further information.
