SuniTAFE Student Residences
The
SuniTAFE Student Residences are situated at our Mildura Campus on Benetook Ave.
They are a 30 minute walk from the Mildura city centre and a 5 minute walk from
a small shopping complex.
Accommodation is provided for up to 48 full-time residents studying at
SuniTAFE or La Trobe University. There is
also accommodation for short stays by SuniTAFE apprentices and trainees on block
release, students studying at other educational institutions, and visiting
student family members.
The bedrooms for most residents are single or twin share. Short-stay
apprentices and trainees stay in hostel style rooms with two sets of bunk beds.
All non-hostel bedrooms have wardrobes, desks, chairs, and drawers for each
resident. They also have bookshelves and a pin-board. All rooms are fully
carpeted and have a reverse cycle air conditioner.
All students are required to provide their own linen. Students may also bring
their own TV, computer, small refrigerator, sound system or other appliances
(subject to approval).
Each building contains one or two kitchens, all equipped with an electric
stove, microwave oven, toaster, kettle and refrigerator/freezers. There is also
a barbeque in the courtyard. Students need to bring their own cooking utensils.
Prepared food can be purchased from the canteen
during the morning and afternoon if desired.
A number of shared bathrooms and toilets are provided in each building.
The Residences have a laundry with coin operated washers and dryers, and
clotheslines are available nearby. Each building has an iron and ironing board.
Cleaners clean rooms on a weekly basis, and common areas on a daily basis. A
vacuum cleaner is available for residents to use between these cleanings if
desired. Residents are required to wash their own dishes and to keep all areas
in a tidy state.
Each building has a phone for incoming and emergency calls, and there is a
payphone for general use. There is also a locked and fenced parking area for
resident vehicles. A 24 hour security service is available to all residents and
guests.
Internet access in rooms is available at an extra cost on request. Residents
may also access the internet on communal computers in the Residence study room.
Each building has a shared lounge area with couches and a TV. There is also a
Common Room with a television with cable TV, DVD player and VCR; table tennis
equipment; a small exercise area; board games; and a table, couches and other
chairs.
Residents also have access to the campus' canteen,
restaurant, library,
child care centre,
hair
and beauty services, and other public
facilities. SuniTAFE and La Trobe students also have easy access to their
institution's student support services and
facilities.
Visiting family members can stay in the adjacent
SuniTAFE Motel, which offers
twin share accommodation with en-suite bathrooms and all linen supplied.
Visitors may also stay in students' rooms if they pay a nightly fee.
Organisations requiring accommodation for training activities, festival
performers or other purposes are encouraged to talk to us. Catering services are
available by request.
