This course is intended for people seeking to work in the early childhood education and care sector. It provides the skills and knowledge required to assist in the design and implementation of the curriculum and care programs, in early childhood education and care services. It will supply all the necessary understanding of how to work with learning frameworks so that upon implementation, they meet the requirements of the education and care services National Regulations and the National Quality Standards. On completion of this course you will be capable of providing quality education and care for the social, emotional, physical and learning needs of infants and young children.


This qualification could lead to employment as a Child Care Assistant, Playgroup Supervisor, Family Day Care Worker or Child Care Worker.


This qualification enables students to pathway into Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Course Delivery

Swan Hill/Mildura - Trainee, Classroom based and flexible/online delivery. Min 240 hours of practical placement in a regulated Early Childhood Service is required to complete this course, with 120 hours for children aged 0-2years and 120 hours for children aged 3-5years. Swan Hill / Mildura- Classroom based delivery - This qualification takes 1 year to complete, Classes are timetabled 3 days per week Wednesday, Thursdays & Fridays 9:00am to 3:00pm. Placements are full time Monday to Friday Placement 1: May 30 - June 3 (38 hours) Placement 2: August 29 - September 16 (114 hours) Placement 3: October 30 - November 18 (106.40 hours) Placement dates may vary for individual student circumstances. placements hours to be completed in varying age groups 0-2 years and 3-5 years Classes are 3 days a week for both campuses. Trainee participants are required to sign up with an AAO (Australian Apprenticeship Officer) to be registered with EPSILON- Victoria's apprenticeship and traineeship register (or state equivalent) as a trainee prior to commencing training with SuniTAFE. Trainee will meet with Assessor on a monthly or weekly basis as arranged with employer.

Entry Requirements

Each student will undertake a Pre-Training Review including an ACER before enrolling to help confirm the proposed course is suitable. It will provide valuable information about an individual's existing skills and knowledge, language, literacy and numeracy skills and whether the course will help in achieving learning and/or employment goals. students must complete ACER and receive exit level 3 for reading and numeracy. Students must have a Working with Children Check. Students must be 18 years of age prior to the first placement (individual exceptions with Business Manager approval). Students must have Covid-19 vaccination certificate. Students must have access to internet to submit assessments. students wanting to complete placement in any Goodstart Early Learning services must have additional vaccination evidence.
