Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

Careers

This qualification can lead to positions such as, Personal Care Assistant, Nurse's Aide, Support Worker, Residential Care worker, Transport Support Worker, or Field Officer (Community Services).

Pathways

The Certificate III in Individual support (Ageing) offers a pathway option into Certificate IV in Ageing Support, Certificate IV in Allied Health assistance and Diploma of Nursing.

Course Delivery

Mildura: This program will be delivered at the Mildura Campus over a five month period with 120 hours practical placement working in a residential facility. Mildura NIGHT CLASS: This program will be delivered at the Mildura Campus over an 18 month period two nights per week with 120 hours of practical placement working in a residential facility. Swan Hill: This program will be delivered at the Swan Hill Campus over 12 months. This includes 120 hours of practical placement working in a relevant support services facility. This course is currently in transition; the course code, title, units and content may change in the future and further information will be provided upon enrolment and/or during the course of your training.

Entry Requirements

Domestic Students must be 18 years of age or turning 18 within 2 months of commencement of course and be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia. A completed course application form incorporating a Pre-Training Review and pre-selection interview, completion of a Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment (LLN). Students admitted to the course must be willing to obtain and provide evidence of: an NDIS Worker Screening Check, which will include a criminal history check, and have up-to-date immunisation for covid 19 (recognised in Australia) and current influenza vaccination (recognised in Australia), prior to undertaking practical work placement. Prior to placement it is also a pre-requisite that students will have completed their level two First Aid certificate. 120 hours of practical work placement is required for successful completion of this course. International Students must be at least 18 years old when they commence studies. This course includes a practical work placement. Prior to undertaking practical work placement, students must be willing to obtain a National Police Check, and where applicable an NDIS worker screening check, have completed a current valid level two first aid certificate, have up-to-date immunisation for COVID-19 (recognised in Australia) and current influenza vaccination (recognised in Australia). Students must meet English proficiency requirements IELTS 5.5 or equivalent test score, or successful completion of Upper Intermediate ELICOS at Sunraysia Institute of TAFE or a recognised provider. All students going on placement must have a uniform of navy or black pants, enclosed duty shoes and SuniTAFE logo embroidered polo shirt. This is arranged with the teacher prior to placement.
