This qualification provides the skills and theoretical and practical knowledge for work or further learning in the conservation and ecosystem management industry. The qualification provides for work roles encompassing a broad range of skills, or can be focused on one or more specializations, including: Indigenous land management, Ecological restoration, Land, parks and wildlife Management, Pest controller, Conservation earthworks, Marine operations, Fire management. Individuals with this qualification perform a range of conservation and ecosystem management activities including, site restoration, rehabilitation and renewal and management of the rural and natural landscapes, degraded sites and marine environments. They contribute to the preservation and maintenance of wildlife and their habitat in the natural ecosystem, parks and reserves. Activities frequently involve working with and preservation of indigenous culture and heritage resources.
This qualification may lead to career opportunities such as: Landcare Officer, Project Firefighter, Bushland Management Officer, Cultural Heritage Officer, National Parks Ranger, Ranger - Pest programs, land rehabilitation worker, revegetation worker, Indigenous lands worker, Pest animal worker.
Certificate IV in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or Diploma of Conservation and Ecosystem Management.
This course will be delivered in the classroom or online with a series of one-day workshops over the year. Students will be expected to attend all organised camps relating to Conservation Reserve for surveys on threatened species, cultural heritage and the impacts of vertebrate pest animals on ecosystems.
Each student will undertake a Pre-Training Review to help confirm the proposed course is suitable. It will provide valuable information about an individual's existing skills and knowledge, language, literacy and numeracy skills and whether the course will help in achieving learning and/or employment goals.
