Overview

This qualification is for working in the automotive service and repairs industry specialising in heavy commercial vehicles. The qualification is suitable for new employees or existing employees who are looking for skills recognition or development. On completion of this course you will be able to perform mechanical services and repairs to commercial heavy vehicles including testing and diagnosis of mechanical parts such as engines, brakes, transmission and suspension systems. You'll be able to apply your skills to a range of heavy vehicles from heavy rigid to heavy combination trucks capable of working as a heavy commercial vehicle technician or as a heavy vehicle mechanic.

Pathways

Further training pathways from this course include Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis, Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Overhauling, Certificate IV in Automotive Performance Enhancement and Diploma of Automotive Technology.

Course Delivery

Apprentices are signed up for 4 years however this package is competency based meaning some apprentices may complete in less time. Practical tasks will be carried out in the workshop, practical tasks may be assessed on-site where appropriate for some units. Block release (weekly). 7 week block releases, 5 days, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00 am – 3:00 pm Friday.

Entry Requirements

Each student will undertake a Pre-Training Review before enrolling to help confirm the proposed course is suitable. It will provide valuable information about an individual's existing skills and knowledge, language, literacy and numeracy skills and whether the course will help in achieving learning and/or employment goals. Victoria: Must have a workplace/be employed as an Apprentice and have an Epsilon registration. NSW: Must have a workplace/be employed as an Apprentice and have a NSW state training registration.
