Studying automotive at Sunraysia Institute of TAFE provides students with the technical skills to service and repair the mechanical parts of motor vehicles, dismantle, repair and reassemble vehicle components to manufacturer specifications and diagnose, evaluate, design and modify vehicle systems.
Students will gain technical knowledge of mechanical components of vehicles such as the engine, transmission and suspension systems, cooling systems, fuel systems, air conditioning and emission control systems, braking systems, final drive assemblies and steering systems. Students also acquire skills in repairing ignition, electronic engine management and electrical systems.

English Proficiency | IELTS 5.5 or equivalent test score OR successful completion of Upper Intermediate ELICOS at Sunraysia Institute of TAFE. |
Academic Requirements | Successful completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 11 high school studies. |
Other Requirements | Students must be at least 18 years old when they commence studies. |
Course Progression | Must successfully complete each level before progressing to the next qualification in the program. |
Materials | Students are required to purchase work boots, preferably steel-capped boots, to wear during class. |
Practical component | This course incorporates practical instruction in a training workshop. Work-based training in industry is not included. |
Course Credits | Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis – one unit will be credit transferred from Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology. Diploma of Automotive Technology – two units will be credit transferred from Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis. |
