SuniTAFE Embraces the Gift of Giving

12 Dec 2024

Young people across the Mallee will open a gift from SuniTAFE at Christmas time this year, thanks to the Mallee Family Care Christmas Appeal.

For the last 20 years, Mallee Family Care has held their annual appeal to ensure vulnerable young people across the region have a gift to open on Christmas morning.

SuniTAFE has proudly participated in the Appeal for more than a decade, reflecting an ongoing dedication to the local community.

Toy trucks, tractors, Legos, and cars were found most commonly under the Christmas tree, with dolls and unicorns also proving popular.

This year, the TAFEKids Inc. Kindergarten and Childcare Centre got behind the cause, donating more than 20 gifts while also teaching the children the value of giving.

TAFEKids Inc. Assistant Director Jess Inwood Irrgang was excited to participate in the Appeal this year.

“It was beautiful, so many of the children came in with big smiles holding their presents,” she said.

“They knew the child’s name that they were buying for so they could make that connection. And we were blown away by how much our families got involved.

“We’ve always felt that this is an incredible cause, and we’re excited to do it again next year.”

It was also a great chance to teach the children valuable lessons about giving.

“This was such a great learning opportunity for the children to really understand that Christmas is about more than just getting presents, it’s about giving as well,” Jess said.

“There were also a lot of lessons around being a good friend and giving without expecting anything in return.

“A lot of the families shared feedback as well that they were able to talk to the children about how not everyone is lucky enough to get lots of presents so we have to appreciate what we do have.”

One of SuniTAFE’s objectives is to be a supportive member of the community and contribute to the greater good. Click here to read about Community Services students who ran their own blanket and coat drive during winter this year.
