The 22515VIC Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry is a short course targeted at persons working in the solar industry with the installation of photovoltaic and solar water systems. The course provides a pathway to further qualifications. It is not intended as a replacement for full certificate-level qualifications. The vocational outcome of the 22515VIC Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry is to ensure workers have the appropriate skills and knowledge required to work safely in the solar industry. On achieving the 22515VIC Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry, learners working with photovoltaic (PV) systems and solar water systems will have the skills and knowledge to work safely on roofs, work safely at heights and identify and report asbestos.
The course is designed for electricians, plumbers, apprentices & trade assistants who want to increase their safety awareness on solar installations. Note that the VU22744 Work safely in the solar industry unit will be a mandatory requirement for installers, apprentices and trade assistants working in the Victorian Government's Solar Homes program as of 2021. www.solar.vic.gov.au/ Note: VU22744 Work safely in the solar industry must be completed before undertaking any other unit in the course.
The course provides an overview of safety hazards and appropriate safety measures relevant to solar installations. The course can also be used as a pathway to further qualifications. After achieving this short course, learners may continue on a VET pathway via relevant training products from the Construction, Plumbing and Services and Electrical Training Packages.
The course duration will be determined after you register your interest based on your previous experience or direct credits. The Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry consists of five core units of competency. To be awarded the Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry participants must successfully complete all core units. Participants, who exit the course without completing all the required units for the course will receive a Statement of Attainment listing those units that were successfully completed. Holding a valid White Card was already a mandatory requirement for working on any solar installation, however as of 1 July 2020, it also became a mandatory requirement for Solar Homes installation workers. Solar workers can study this training unit free of charge by enrolling in 22515VIC Course in Working Safely in the Solar Industry It is highly recommended that apprentices and trade assistants working in the solar industry undertake the full course. Experienced workers who wish to update their qualifications can undertake VU22744 Work safely in the solar industry, apply for credit transfers/RPL on remaining subjects, where appropriate, to gain the full course certification.
Each student will undertake a Pre-Training Review before enrolling to help confirm the proposed course is suitable. It will provide valuable information about an individual's existing skills and knowledge, language, literacy and numeracy skills and whether the course will help in achieving learning and/or employment goals.
