Overview

This qualification intends to both prepare new employees and to also recognise and develop the skills of existing employees working in the earthmoving sector. The qualification will provide you with an ability to perform a broad range of servicing and repair tasks on a variety of mobile plant machinery and equipment. These operations may include servicing and repairing mechanical parts such as engines, transmissions, suspension, cooling systems, brakes and track type drive and support systems. We are continuing to see rapid advances in this sector and in response to this technicians are becoming more specialised in their areas of work.

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to service and repair mobile plant machinery, specifically in the role of a mobile plant mechanical technician.

Pathways

Further training pathways from this course include Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis, Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Overhauling and Diploma of Automotive Technology.

Course Delivery

Full-Time Apprentices are signed up for 4 years, however this package is competency based, meaning some apprentices may complete in less time. Students signed into a School-Based Apprenticeship arrangement may be signed up for a longer duration as agreed upon with their employer and apprenticeship provider. Practical tasks will be carried out in the workshop, practical tasks may be assessed on-site where appropriate for some units. Block release (weekly). 7 x 1 week block releases (less for SBA students), 5 days.

Entry Requirements

Each applicant will be required to undertake a Pre-training Review before enrolling to help confirm if the proposed course is suitable. It will provide valuable information about skills, knowledge, language, literacy and numeracy skills and whether the course will help in achieving learning and employment goals. Apprentices must have a registered training contract agreement with their employer. Victoria: Must be employed as an Apprentice and have an Epsilon registration. NSW: Must be employed as an Apprentice and have a NSW state training registration.
