This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.
This qualification can lead to positions such as, Personal Care Assistant, Nurse's Aide, Family Support Worker, Residential Care worker, Transport Support Worker, or Field Officer (Community Services).
Students can pathway into courses such as CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support, HLT43015 Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance and HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing.
Students must be at least 18 years old when they commence studies. This course includes a work placement. Prior to work placement, students must obtain and provide evidence of a satisfactory police clearance certificate, and must have a current valid level two first aid certificate. A uniform of navy or black pants, enclosed duty shoes and SuniTAFE logo embroidered polo shirt is required for students going on placement. This is arranged with the teacher prior to placement. Each student will undertake a Pre-Training Review to determine individual student needs, their ACSF core skills profile and suitability to this course.
