Studying horticulture at Sunraysia Institute of TAFE provides students with knowledge and practical skills related to horticultural food-producing crops, nursery plants and gardening.

The program is delivered at SuniTAFE’s commercially operating SMART Farm which provides hands-on experience using the latest and innovative technologies. Students will learn to identify plant needs, weed and pest management, irrigation installation and use of fertigation systems, management of soils, operation of machinery and equipment and the preparation and application of chemicals.

English Proficiency IELTS 5.5 or equivalent test score OR successful completion of Upper Intermediate ELICOS at Sunraysia Institute of TAFE.
Academic Requirements Successful completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 11 high school studies.
Other Requirements Students must be at least 18 years old when they commence studies.
Course Progression Must successfully complete each level before progressing to the next qualification in the program.

Other Information

Materials Students are recommended to purchase work boots and wear appropriate sun safe work clothes including hats for classes at the SuniTAFE Farm.
Practical component SuniTAFE operates a 30 hectare commercial horticulture farm growing citrus, vines, almonds, olives, dates and other nursery plants. Students undertake practical components of the program at the SuniTAFE Farm.
Course Credits Diploma of Horticulture – one unit will be credit transferred from Certificate III in Horticulture.
