Short listed candidates are required to report for their interview 15 minutes before their scheduled interview time.

Candidates are provided with a quiet space and 15 minutes with the interview questions to enable them to prepare for the interview. SuniTAFE finds that we get the most from our candidates using this method.

SuniTAFE use Targeted Selection Behavioral Interviewing techniques. In most cases, candidates are interviewed by a panel of 3 members.  The interview panel look for STAR responses to the interview questions, a Situation or a Task, the Action that was taken and the Results of the action.

SuniTAFE endeavors to contact candidates at least one week after the interview has been conducted to let them know the outcome, this allows us time to complete our internal reporting and reference checking.

Flexible working arrangements

Employees who have worked at the Institute for 12 months can request flexible working arrangements in specific circumstances.    Examples of flexible working arrangements include:

  • hours of work, for e.g. temporary change to time fraction or temporary change to start or finish times
  • patterns of work (for e.g. split shifts or job sharing)
  • locations of work (for e.g. working from home)

Employees can request flexible working arrangements if they:

  • are the parent, or have responsibility for the care, of a child who is school aged or younger
  • are a carer (under the Carer Recognition Act 2010)
  • have a disability
  • are 55 or older
  • are experiencing family or domestic violence, or provide care or support to a member of their household or immediate family who requires care and support because of family or domestic violence.

Casual employees can make a request if they’ve been working with the Institute regularly and systematically for at least 12 months and there is a reasonable expectation of continuing work with the Institute on a regular and systematic basis.


Teaching – MBA

All new teachers have their salary assessed prior to commencement.   The teaching salary is assessed based on qualifications and years of teaching experience together with industry qualifications and experience, the sum of all of these is used to determine the commencing salary of a new teacher.

Levels commence at T1.1 and can progress through to a higher levels of the range.  Increments are available based on successful completion of employee appraisal at the end of each 12 month period and with agreement from the relevant manager based on satisfactory performance.  Higher levels are accessible dependent upon teaching qualifications and years of teaching experience.

Non-Teaching – PACCT

New staff generally commence employment at Level 1 of the position’s classification (i.e. PACCT Level 4 would start at PACCT Level 4-1). The position classification can be found on the Position Description.

Salary Sacrifice

Under the Teachers MBA 2009 and the PACCT Agreement 2011, employees have the option to salary sacrifice their superannuation.

Work Health and Safety & Environment

SuniTAFE has an excellent health and safety record, and has an active Health and Safety Committee run by a committed OHS Coordinator and engaged health and safety representatives.  The Health and Safety Committee meet quarterly to discuss health and safety improvement strategies for the Institute.

SuniTAFE takes its commitment to the environment seriously, we have a dedicated Environmental Officer who works on initiatives to reduce our impact to our surroundings.

We have a team of trained First Aid Officers and Fire Wardens who meet regularly for the benefit of keeping the workplace and its employees and visitors safe in the event of an emergency.
