Characters from many well-loved books were brought to life this week by the children and educators at TAFE Kids for national CBCA Book Week.

Each year since 1945 the Children’s Book Council of Australia has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week.

During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators.

TAFE Kids got involved in the fun with children encouraged to dress up each day and take part in a range of literacy games and activities.

TAFE Kids director Amie Johnson said Book Week was always a well-supported event at the childcare facility.

“It’s definitely one of the favourite weeks of the year with the children really loving the opportunity to get dressed up and share their favourite book from home with the rest of the children and educators,” she said.

“This week builds their sense of belonging at TAFE Kids as they are able to make a connection of something they do at home and into the classroom.”

Superheroes and princesses were by far the most popular characters of choice at TAFE Kids with all ages getting involved in the week long event.

“Book Week allows for our educators and children to celebrate their love of reading through a wide range of literacy based activities all suited to each age group,” Amie said.

“Some children had the opportunity to create their own books, while others built on their imaginations and acted out different plays.

“Our older children got to visit the SuniTAFE Library and our kinder age group took a trip to the Mildura Library.

“It’s a great week that is well loved each year.”

The theme for Book Week 2022 was Dreaming With Eyes Open. Dreaming with Eyes Open is about stepping into your own story. It invokes thoughts of ancient times, and of listening to Country as the first storyteller.
