Kevin Sharman, Farm Manager

Kevin Sharman, Farm Manager

Kevin has been with us since 2004 and is known among our team and our students as the “happy farmer”, always beaming with a smile.

A born and bred local, Kevin has lived in the Red Cliffs/Mildura region all his life and was raised on a dried fruit property in Sunnycliffs. In his early career, he spent five years in a citrus packing house in Red Cliffs, where citrus and avocados were processed for the local and export markets, driving trucks and forklifts, and learning the operations of all the processing machinery.

Kevin then progressed to a large, dried fruit growing family that held nine dried fruit properties across the district, and it was here where he enhanced his dried fruit growing skills and operating a vast array of machinery.

Having gained the necessary skills, Kevin secured a job running the 70 acre rootstock farm of the Department of Agriculture in Irymple for a number of years, gaining formal qualifications being in the Diploma of Horticulture & Diploma of OH&S. Move forward 17 years, and there is no looking back for Kevin finding his feet at the SuniTAFE Farm.

The SuniTAFE farm has provided a fantastic opportunity for Kevin to progress his skills as a dried fruit producer, winning four separate Dried Fruit Awards over several years. And Kevin has gained a third Diploma in Advanced Management.

Kevin is passionate about growing fruit to industry standards while supporting the horticulture teaching staff & students wherever possible. He has re-developed significant areas of the farm including Sun Muscat, sultanas, citrus, almonds, olives and date palms and has also grown annual crops such as onion seed and vegetables. Now, Kevin is using the technology installed on the farm to further enhance his production decisions, proving its never to late to learn about agtech.
On a personal note, he loves martial arts and has gained a black belt and enjoys fishing and camping.
