SuniTAFE Student Wins Koorie Student of the Year at Victorian Training Awards

23 Aug 2023

Diploma of Nursing graduate Pearl Dunn was awarded Koorie Student of the Year at last week’s Victorian Training Awards event.

The Victorian Training Awards provide an opportunity to recognise the achievements of students, teachers, training providers, and employers within the Victorian TAFE and training sector.
Pearl was one of three finalists in her category, but was ultimately named winner at the gala event held Friday 18 August.

She was elated to receive this award in front of her family and several SuniTAFE representatives who attended the event.

A very deserving winner, Pearl was a consistent hard worker throughout the duration of her studies.
She demonstrated an eagerness to learn in the classroom, while remaining professional and respectful at all times during her work placements.

Pearl completed the Diploma of Nursing (HLT54115) to a high standard despite being pulled away from her studies at times due to family hardships.

SuniTAFE Chief Executive Officer Brett Millington attended the Victorian Training Awards event and watched Pearl accept her award.

“It’s great that Pearl has been recognised, not just for her commitment, but her persistence and desire to overcome challenges and deliver at a high level,” Mr Millington said.
“This award is due recognition of that and we are thrilled for her and her family that were there on the night to celebrate with her.”

Pearl was first recognised for her outstanding achievements at the 2023 SuniTAFE Graduation and Awards event, where she was awarded Koorie Student of the Year for the Swan Hill campus.
Since graduating, Pearl has gone on to work at Kerang District Health and continues to build her bright career as a nurse.
