Tyler Harris

Tyler Harris admits he was never one to enjoy school, but that all changed when he began attending classes at SuniTAFE in 2021. 

At the time, Tyler was in Year 10 and was interested in a career in construction. 

“I started off (as a VETDSS student) spending four days of the week still at St Joseph’s College and one day at SuniTAFE, which I really enjoyed,” he said. 

“I enjoyed being in a class with other people from different schools and getting to meet and learn with new people. 

“I also enjoyed getting to develop life skills that I could use within the workplace, which I wouldn’t have learnt by just being at school.” 

In 2023, Tyler’s passion for construction changed and he moved on to complete a Certificate II in Horticulture at SuniTAFE. 

“Having the support and knowledge passed on from teachers who have worked in that industry before and could tell us what it would be like and pass on different information was really great,” he said. 

Now at 18, Tyler has completed three years at SuniTAFE and is now studying for a Certificate IV in Agriculture at Longerenong College. 

“Studying at SuniTAFE definitely prepared me for what to expect when studying at Longerenong College,” Tyler said. 

“It gave me the head start I needed, and I felt prepared to take on further study.” 

After completing his studies, Tyler hopes to pursue a career as an agronomist.
