Enrolling at SuniTAFE was the “best decision” Casey Skipworth could have made when she first moved to Mildura three years ago. 

The 18-year-old felt it would be intimidating to enroll at one of the local high schools when she made the move from Tumby Bay and that SuniTAFE would be a better option. 

“I liked the idea that SuniTAFE had smaller classes and were focused on giving us an education that could ultimately lead to a job,” she said. 

In 2021 Casey enrolled as a VETDSS student and began a Certificate III in Design Fundamentals (CUA30720). Following the completion of the two-year course, she has since enrolled in a Certificate III in Community Services (CHC32015). 

“When I initially started at SuniTAFE I was pretty nervous but as time has gone on, I have really built up my confidence so I think this has been a great opportunity to get out of my shell and I have had the chance to do a lot of things I wouldn’t have done otherwise,” Casey said. 

“For anyone who doesn’t want to go on to study at university or go straight to university, SuniTAFE is a great option. 

“It not only builds up your confidence but gets you out there to experience different industries. During my nearly three years here, my class has been out to various wineries, day cares and involved in community events. 
“It definitely shows you that there are a lot of options and opportunities out there that you may not have known about otherwise.” 

Once Casey completes her Certificate III in Community Services (CHC32015) she plans to continue to broaden her knowledge and skill set at SuniTAFE. 

“I am currently exploring my options, but I am considering enrolling in a Certificate IV in Community Services (CHC42015) and eventually I would like to get into social work and potentially work as a counsellor at a local school.”
