Book Week 2023
Children across Australia celebrated their love of reading, books and storybook characters last week during national CBCA Book Week.

TAFE Kids was no exception with children and educators dressing up as their favourite characters and taking part in an array of literacy related activities.

“Book Week gives children an opportunity to share their favourite books with their friends and allows for educators to promote literacy and encourage a lifelong love of reading,” TAFE Kids Assistant Director Jess Inwood Irrgang said.

“It is definitely a well-loved week by not only the TAFE Kids children but for parents too, who love to take photos of their children all dressed up to show off to their friends and family.”

Elsa, Spiderman and the Wiggles were popular costume choices among the children this year, while educators dressed up as everything from Little Red Riding Hood to Mr. Men and Little Miss.

“We love seeing all the different costume choices each year and particularly enjoy seeing the children who have been with us since they were babies and seeing how their favourite book changes from one book week to the next,” Ms Inwood Irrgang said.

On Tuesday, TAFE Kids had a very special visit from 10 SuniTAFE VCAL students who volunteered their time to read to the children.

“It was a great experience for all of them,” TAFE Kids director Amie Johnson said.

“We want to continue to build our relationship with SuniTAFE and this helps us work towards that goal with several of the VCAL students now interested in studying at SuniTAFE in Early Childhood before potentially looking at employment at TAFE Kids.”

Among the various activities, TAFE Kids children visited the SuniTAFE Library, which for the kindergarten class is a weekly occurrence.

“We are very lucky to have had the staff from the SuniTAFE Library set up a special spot within the library for TAFE Kids,” TAFE Kids Assistant Director Jess Inwood Irrgang said.

“Each week the kindergarteners visit and are able to use their library cards, book bags and borrow books, which is something they all enjoy doing.”

The theme for Book Week this year was READ, GROW, INSPIRE with the featured artist Matt Ottley.
