Do it for Dolly – Certificate I in Work Education
Raising awareness for anti-bullying was at the forefront of a recent fundraiser held by SuniTAFE’s Certificate I in Work Education (22566VIC) students.

Certificate I in Work Education (22566VIC) aims to prepare young adults for the workforce. A requirement for the course is to participate in the unit called “work effectively with others”. This unit encourages students to work as a team to plan and participate in a fundraising project of their choice.

“Students were required to research, plan and organise, network with the wider community, set timelines, organise meetings, resolve conflicts and overcome barriers,” Certificate I in Work Education teacher Renee Scholz said.

The Work Education students decided on a fundraiser that is relevant not only to themselves but also to the wider community, in particular, youth.

This year they chose an anti-bullying fundraiser called “Do It for Dolly”.

This fundraiser aims to spread awareness of bullying and encourages the community, to spread kindness and support.

Throughout April and May the Work Education students worked hard selling raffle tickets and promoting anti-bullying.

The prizes were hampers filled with donations students sourced from local businesses.

“We were amazed by the generosity of our community with more than $1000 worth of donations received”.

On May 18, students with the support of Foundation Studies teacher Mon Hockley held a café with freshly baked sticky date pudding and cheesecake available for staff to purchase.

Students were in charge of the entire process, from the baking to serving.

“SuniTAFE staff provided wonderful feedback on the service,” Ms Scholz said.

Overall, a total of $1334 was raised and many valuable skills were learnt.

“Participating in this fundraising project allowed the students to successfully demonstrate their ability to work together as a team and it also gave them an opportunity to help educate and support their wider community,” Ms Scholz said.

Following the completion of Certificate I in Work Education, students will have the option to continue building their skills by undertaking a Certificate II in Work Education (22481VIC).
