Futures Day 2023

Teachers from every department at SuniTAFE presented to the year 12s at Mildura Senior College earlier this week as a part of the Futures Day event.

In collaboration with La Trobe University, the annual Futures Day event aims to show year 12s the many options available to them after they graduate.

By providing free lunch, merchandise, and entertainment, both Institutes aim to make the daunting process of picking a career path fun.

The SuniTAFE teachers who presented were pleased with how the students received their seminars.

Teacher of Engineering Damien Robertson spoke to students about studying general construction and industry trades at SuniTAFE.

“There was some keen interest in the room. We gave quite a bit of information today and it can be overwhelming. But, judging by some of the faces, I think it might have given them a bit more insight into what they could do or where they could go,” Damien said.

Business Studies Education Delivery Manager Scott Hopkins presented the Accounting seminar to students.
“While there were a handful of students who were actively engaged and asking questions, I think most of them just wanted to hear what was available. With a discipline like Accounting, there are many pathways to enter the industry and it was important that we present these to the students interested in this area,” he said.

Finally, Education Delivery Manager of Hospitality Pete Webley gave an interactive seminar on studying a Hospitality qualification at SuniTAFE while cooking risotto for the students to sample.

“During the presentation I tried to speak about the fun parts of the Hospitality industry, and the many choices you can make with your career.”

“I tried to talk a lot about real life scenarios and get them to look at the industry through a different lens. They ended up asking a lot of questions, so I think I was able to connect with them. I hope a few people left the presentation considering a career in Hospitality,” Pete said.

SuniTAFE would like to thank Mildura Senior College and La Trobe University for collaborating on this event. Further thanks is offered to Verdict Popup Catering Company and Amigos Mexican for providing food and coffee on the day.
