When Chelsea Garraway first walked through the doors of SuniTAFE, she was a young mother of
one, ready to tackle her new role as Customer Service Officer.

Almost two decades later, she is part of the SuniTAFE Executive Leadership team and is the new
Head of Governance.

“I never imagined almost 20 years down the track that I would still be working in the same place I
started at as a 21-year-old but it’s just a tribute to how good of a place it is to work and how much I
love it here,” she said.

“It’s a wonderful place to work and I love all the opportunities that it provides to staff.”
When Chelsea first considered working at SuniTAFE it was the reputation that had drawn her to the
Institute.

“I thought working at SuniTAFE would be a really prestigious sort of place to work so when I got the
call to say I had the job my family and I were really excited,” Chelsea said.

Chelsea remained as Customer Service Officer for two years before moving on to Administration
Coordinator in the Active Employment Service.

“After two years in that role, a job came up as International Administration Officer, which really
interested me so I applied and got that,” Chelsea said.

“It was a real challenge for me and it was where my real introduction to compliance came, which is
something I enjoyed.

“I enjoyed setting up the frameworks, developing policies and procedures so I spent three years
there before a Quality and Compliance role came up and I have sort of progressed every few years.

“It was a gentle progression; I went from a Quality Officer to a Coordinator to Manager to Senior
Manager and now to the Head of Governance.”

“I have had the chance to progress through the organisation and undertake training and
development opportunities.

Chelsea attributes her success to her team.

“I wouldn’t be where I am without the amazing team I have got around me,” she said.

“I always reflect on my time here and how much I like my job, I like the people I work with and the
flexibility I have been given and the opportunities that are there if people want them.

“I am proud to have taken risks and challenges I have taken on and to progress to where I am
today.”

Chelsea is excited to be once again challenged with her new role and is looking forward to many
more years working at SuniTAFE.
