SuniTAFE Embraces World Art Day

People across the world were embracing their creative sides yesterday for World Art Day.

Observed each year on 15 April, World Art Day celebrates the important role that art plays in many societies across the globe.

UNESCO first proclaimed the global day in 2019 in recognition of the ability for art to “nurture creativity, innovation and cultural diversity for all peoples across the globe.”

Staff and Students Get Involved

To mark the occasion, SuniTAFE’s Creative Design department facilitated a collaborative mural for staff and students at the Mildura campus to contribute to.

Creative Design Teacher Kerryn Sylvia greatly enjoyed getting involved with staff and students on this project, picking a ‘flight’ theme represented by a proliferation of local bird silhouettes.

"We picked a ‘flight’ theme today, with a particular focus on birds that are native to the area,” Kerryn said.

“Flight is a really nice theme that accompanies the images of birds. So many people really love art but maybe they don’t get to do it very often or at all. What better occasion than World Art Day to help those passions take flight and inspire the educational journeys of TAFE students.”

The vibrant mural will remain on display at the Mildura campus and serve as a constant reminder of the power of art to bring people together.
