Overview

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of tasks related to servicing and repairing air conditioning components and systems of cars and heavy vehicles within an automotive service and repair business. The Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology is intended to prepare new employees or recognise and develop existing workers who are performing servicing and repair of air conditioning components/systems of vehicles in an automotive service or repair business. This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of tasks related to servicing and repairing air conditioning components and systems of cars and heavy vehicles within an automotive service and repair business. The Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology is intended to prepare new employees or recognise and develop existing workers who are performing servicing and repair of air conditioning components/systems of vehicles in an automotive service or repair business. The completion of this qualification enables an individual to apply for an AAC02 - Refrigerant handling licence - qualified persons (Automotive air conditioning licence: 2 years). Students enrolling into Air Conditioning specific units will need to be enrolled a minimum of 4 weeks prior to unit commencement to ensure time is allowed for the student to gain a “Training Licence”. This licence is applied for through the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) and requires students to send a copy of the Confirmation of Enrolment and a passport photo. Licences take a minimum of 2 weeks to process. Students are not legally allowed to undertake practical activities without this licence and will not be allowed in class for Air Conditioning specific units.

Careers

This course provides the skills to begin working in the automotive service industry. Automotive air conditioner technicians work in a range of fields, including mining and private business and future work areas including electrical circuit systems, welding, soldering thermal cutting and heating.

Pathways

Further training opportunities, after successful completion of this qualification, include AUR30620 Certificate III in Automotive Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology and AUR30316 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology.

Classroom - Training will be delivered on site at SuniTAFE.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to undertake a Pre-Training Review to help confirm the course is suitable. Applicants must be working in the industry and able to provide a letter of support from their employer to undertake some practical assessments in the workplace.
