Representatives from SuniTAFE were invited to attend a Civic Reception for Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC last week to welcome her to the Mildura region.
Her Excellency is the first Governor of Victoria to visit Mildura since the Hon. Linda Dessau AC CVO visited in 2017.
SuniTAFE Chief Executive Officer Brett Millington, alongside other local CEOs, leaders, and council members attended the event at the newly renovated Powerhouse Precinct.
During her speech, the Governor praised the Mallee region for its significant contribution to Australia’s food production and exports.
She acknowledged the impact that horticulture has on the region’s economic development and commended the community effort it takes to maintain this industry.
“It was fantastic to hear the Governor’s observations on the agricultural powerhouse that our region is and how the success of the local economy has been driven by the passion of the community,” Mr Millington said.
“At SuniTAFE, the passion of our teachers and broader staff is what helps deliver the skills that our passionate community need to deliver those economic outcomes.
“When combined with the investments we are making in our
SMART Farm campus and the delivery of related skills in our
Mildura and
Swan Hill campuses, we can feel proud that our Institute is connected to our community and focused on the needs of the industries that drive it.”
As one of the only training providers in the region offering horticulture courses, SuniTAFE plays a crucial role in nurturing skilled workers who contribute to local food production.
The SMART Farm campus in Cardross has been strategically designed to provide practical experiences for students studying agriculture or horticulture.
At the SMART Farm campus, ongoing trials explore and experiment with new farming technologies which contribute valuable insights to research. These innovations aim to enhance farming efficiency while minimising environmental impact.
SuniTAFE’s Vision is to inspire growth and belief through learning, positioning itself to contribute significantly to the future prosperity of the region through horticulture training.
SuniTAFE would like to thank Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC for visiting Mildura.
