Podium Finish for SuniTAFE at 2025 WorldSkills National Championships

18 Jun 2025

Sunraysia has reason to celebrate after three SuniTAFE students were awarded medals at the closing ceremony of the 2025 WorldSkills National Championships on Sunday.

Kye Lawrence-Hall, a Mildura campus Automotive Electrical apprentice, earned his place as the second best in the country, taking home a silver medal in his category.

Swan Hill’s VETiS Metals and Engineering competitor Kadison Dalton and Mildura’s VETiS Plumbing competitor Matthew Prescott both took home bronze medals in their categories.

Medallions of Excellence were awarded to Carpentry competitor Luke Fitzgerald and VETiS Electro Technology competitor Archie Thompson. These acknowledge that the students performed at an outstanding level and were close in score to the top three.

The competition was a tough challenge, and one of the biggest WorldSkills National Championships the country has ever seen, with close to 600 competitors and 35,000 visitors attending as spectators.

All nine students representing SuniTAFE and the Sunraysia region competed with determination, showcasing their exceptional skills, and now proudly hold the title of 2025 WorldSkills National Championship finalists.

SuniTAFE Chief Executive Officer Brett Millington is thrilled with the results of the event and is proud to see SuniTAFE’s quality of training recognised on a national scale.

"It has been a fantastic opportunity for these young people to showcase their talent and refined skills at the national level," he said.

"To also perform so well in what is quite an intense environment with lots of pressure is a true testament to their preparation.

"I want to congratulate all of them for even getting to that level in the first place and also our team who so ably supported them."

It was also a successful three days for all of Team Victoria who earned more gold medals than any other state and placed second in the overall medal tally.
