In collaboration with Apprenticeships Victoria, SuniTAFE engaged with the Transport Accident Commission’s ‘Work Smart Drive Smart’ program which was delivered to a group of construction trade apprentices.
As part of SuniTAFE’s commitment to student wellbeing, the Mildura campus hosted experts representing the TAC to provide the training, which is aimed at minimising the risks associated with a range of driving scenarios in the workplace.
Many trades apprentices are required to drive as part of their job and SuniTAFE recognises that knowing how to do this safely is just as important as on-the-job safety.
‘Work Smart Drive Smart’ is a pilot workplace road safety education program developed by the TAC and delivered by Fit to Drive Foundation for apprentices in the construction trades.
The program is designed to equip new apprentices on their P plates, who are required to drive for work with the knowledge and skills to help them safely navigate the unique driving challenges they experience in the workplace.
Lexi and Zoe from the Fit to Drive Foundation took the students through practical demonstrations about safe loading practices as well as discussions about safe driving, regulations, and requirements.
SuniTAFE would like to thank the TAC and Fit to Drive for taking the time to empower students with these vital skills.
