SuniTAFE Launches First Reconciliation Action Plan
SuniTAFE proudly launched its first “Reflect” Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) with two community events last week.

The launch events in Swan Hill and Mildura marked a significant step forward in SuniTAFE’s commitment to genuine and informed reconciliation.

The events were attended by local Elders, as well as SuniTAFE’s Board of Directors, staff, and students.
Reconciliation Action Plans enable organisations to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action to advance reconciliation, based upon the core pillars of relationships, respect, and opportunities.

SuniTAFE’s RAP was created by a working group within SuniTAFE, with First Nations staff and community representatives at the centre of all consultations.

The actions outlined in the document include working with local First Nations communities to better understand culture and history, as well as reviewing cultural learning needs within the organisation.

Local artist Simone Spencer was selected through an artwork competition to design the imagery that represents the Reconciliation Action Plan.

Her artwork, titled From the Dreaming, was built layer by layer and serves as a reminder of the rich history of local First Nations cultures.

“My intention was to remind everyone that the lands in which we are, everywhere, there’s culture embedded in the ground,” Simone said.

The launch of this first “Reflect” Reconciliation Action Plan is a proud milestone for SuniTAFE.

"Our "Reflect" Reconciliation Action Plan is a demonstration of our organisational commitment to not only acknowledging the cultural richness and diversity of First Nations communities but also creating lasting and meaningful change," Chief Executive Officer Brett Millington said.

"It was a really proud moment for us to bring members of our community, students, and staff together in both Mildura and Swan Hill to celebrate this milestone.

"We are excited about what lies ahead, and we are committed to moving forward with respect, empathy, and a shared vision for a better future."
