SuniTAFE had much to celebrate last month, marking twenty years since the Swan Hill campus first opened its doors to the community on the current site.
Although TAFE delivery commenced in Swan Hill with a small number of courses many years earlier, it was not until 2004 that the purpose-built campus was established on the Sea Lake-Swan Hill Road.
In doing so, SuniTAFE was able to expand course offerings to cover priority sectors like health, community services, construction, and in particular, heavy automotive.
Since then, the campus has impacted the lives of thousands of students who have graduated with SuniTAFE qualifications and provided their communities with a workforce of vital skills.
Today, Swan Hill campus alumni live and work in towns across the mallee region and beyond.
The 20-year milestone was marked last month with a community celebration during Open Day, as well as a get together of the SuniTAFE Board, staff, and industry partners.
"Our Swan Hill campus was initiated by the passion of the local community, but it was delivered by the hard work and dedication of the amazing staff who have previously, and still, work at the Swan Hill campus," said SuniTAFE Chief Executive Officer Brett Millington.
"We heard firsthand of that journey from SuniTAFE Teacher Mark Hull, who has taught Heavy Automotive since the campus opened, and his great reflections of the challenges faced along the way.
"It was a nice reminder that it is the people who continue to make it the community asset that it is today, and who have helped change the lives of so many through vocational education and the opportunities it creates."
SuniTAFE is proud of the strong connections it has formed with local schools, industries, and the communities in Swan Hill and surrounds over the past 20 years. Over the next 20 years and beyond, the Swan Hill campus is committed to continuing that support by delivering high quality TAFE training.
