SuniTAFE get Involved with Local Mural

SuniTAFE staff and students made their mark on a mural recently created on Gallagher Lane, behind the Grand Hotel.

An abstract view of Sunraysia’s agricultural landscape was the focus of the mural, which was designed and led by former local artist Liv McCarten.

The project, which was a collaboration between Mildura City Heart, Arts Mildura, Mildura Council’s Youth Engagement Services, and Cultivator was open to the wider community with SuniTAFE Education Delivery Manager - Creative Design and Cultivator committee member Sophie Cook encouraging SuniTAFE staff and students to get involved.

“It was great to see a range of staff, students and their families get involved,” she said.

“The great thing about murals is that anyone can get involved. You don’t have to be an artist, while you need to have some skill, it is very similar to paint by numbers, which is accessible to everyone.

“Not only is it something fun to be involved in, it’s also a great place to meet likeminded people.”

Ms Cook said the donation of two short throw projectors from SuniTAFE to Cultivator was beneficial to the project.

“Without the projectors, we couldn’t have done the work but with them Cultivator has been able to create work in a number of cool spaces,” she said.

The mural was partly funded by VicHealth Future Reset and was completed within a week with the final day of painting on June 29.
