This qualification provides the skills and knowledge to become an Allied Health Assistant. Allied Health Assistants provide therapeutic and programs to support persons in health, aged care, disability and any other settings where allied health professionals provide services. They work under the delegation and supervision of allied health professionals and are trained to work within a particular scope of practice and undertake tasks that are delegated to them by allied health professionals. They may be engaged to work in single discipline or multidisciplinary roles not limited to health, aged care or disability services and other settings.
This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to become an Allied Health Assistant.
There are no guaranteed pathways for this course. Graduates may choose to continue their studies in programs such as Certificate III in Individual Support, Certificate IV in Disability Support or Diploma of Nursing.
Training will be delivered on site at a SuniTAFE campus and students are required to attend classes in person. This course requires the completion of 120 hours of mandatory placement under the supervision and delegation of an allied health professional. Placement will be arranged by SuniTAFE.
Applicants are required to undertake a Pre-Training Review, including a literacy and numeracy assessment, to determine suitability of the course. Applicants must be willing to provide a Working with Children Check, a current clear Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check and proof of up-to-date immunisation status prior to practical placement, if requested by the employer as part of the Practical Placement Agreement. Applicants are also required to have access to a computer/laptop for class and home and the internet at home. Applicants that wish to enrol in the part time study mode must be working in the industry at least 6 hours per week and will be required to provide a letter from their current employer to support this course entry requirement.
