Shanghai Food Science and Technology School Visits SuniTAFE
A delegation of six teachers from Shanghai Food Science and Technology School spent last week learning at SuniTAFE to complete the Developing Self-Regulated Learners micro-credential.

The study tour was a continuation of the MoU relationship formed between SuniTAFE and Shanghai Food Science and Technology School in September last year, which was made possible with the Victorian Government’s Yes to International Students program.

The study tour kicked off with an official welcome on Monday morning from CEO Brett Millington and Councillor Rebecca Crossling from Mildura Rural City Council.

Throughout the week, the teachers then completed learning in the classroom, participated in presentations about Australia’s vocational education and training system, and visited the SuniTAFE SMART Farm and other agriculture industry partners.

The week concluded with a certificate presentation to formally acknowledge the learning completed by the visitors.

SuniTAFE Education Delivery Manager - Business Studies Scott Hopkins enjoyed the opportunity to deliver training.

“It was a great experience to teach the delegates from Shanghai Food Science and Technology School,” he said.

“This group was very engaged. From their opening speech, they were clear that they were here to engage, learn, and share ideas which is exactly what we wanted to encourage.

“In the Developing Self-Regulated Learners micro-credential that we delivered, we talk about lifelong learning and the importance of talking to peers and seeing how other people do things differently and thinking about how you can use that in your own classroom. It was really great to have those conversations.”

Scott has now delivered this micro-credential to five cohorts, two of which he travelled to China to teach.

“These are great opportunities for us to showcase what SuniTAFE can do,” Scott said.

“When teachers, like those from Shanghai Food Science and Technology School, come here it allows them to see what SuniTAFE is and the opportunities we have for students.

“But then, with us also being in China, it gives us a chance to put our training on display to encourage their students to come study at SuniTAFE.”

The Yes to International Students Fund is a Victorian Government initiative designed to help education providers deliver projects that develop innovative international partnerships.

The initiative has seen SuniTAFE deliver a suite of micro-credentials both in Australia and China, covering study areas including cookery, I.T., horticulture, and more. Click here to read more about SuniTAFE’s Yes to International Students project.
